Hammond Hill State Forest (courtesy COE)About 5 miles east of NYSEG turn south from Rt. 13 onto Irish Settlement Rd. Turn left onto HAMMOND HILL RD., about 3 miles from Rt. 13. ALTERNATE ROUTE (more fun by bike): From East Hill Plaza head east on Ellis Hollow Rd for about 4 miles. Bear right at the Y with Ellis Hollow Creek Rd. and look for HURD RD. on your left in about .5 miles (it will be the first left after Hunt Hill Rd.). Take Hurd Rd. all the way up the hill and follow it down to the stop sign, in about 3 miles. Turn right onto Midline Rd. and then immediately left onto Irish Settlement Rd. Head north on Irish settlement for less than 2 miles, Hammond Hill Rd. will be on your right. Follow HAMMOND HILL RD., bearing right at the Y, and head up hill. Parking lot is at the top of the hill, on the right, just before a significant downhill. Here on finds miles of jeep roads and trails. There are typically DEC trail brochures available at the trail register (across the road). Trails are well-marked by color-coded plastic trail markers, and correspond very well to the trail maps. See DEC brochure for more details. Shindagin Hollow State Forest Take Rt. 79 east about 5 miles to West Slaterville. Turn right on Boiceville Rd (.5 miles), then left on to Central Chapel Rd. at the stop sign. In about 5 miles bear right at the Y onto Braley Hill Rd. (Shindagin Hollow Rd. goes left, and travels parallel to Braley Hill Rd, eventually connecting again in Tioga County; very useful to know for navigation purposes) Travel about 1/4 mile up Braley Hill Rd. A cornucopia of trails stem off this road, in both directions, offering challenges for every level of rider.
